Description: The Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) is the world’s largest all-male singing Society, with tens of thousands of members across North America; affiliated men’s and women’s organizations in more than a dozen countries bring the total number of active singers to more than 80,000 worldwide. BHS-WVD Events: 1) Vocal Health Talk from Thomas Cleveland, PhD, singing voice specialist and voice therapist at the Vanderbilt Voice Center 2) Open Mic night for local a cappella groups at BHS Headquarters in Nashville TN 3) Community engagement and service by Nashville quartets 4) Release of video affirming the Barbershop Harmony Society’s position on and commitment to vocal health 5) Free Voice Assessments for BHS members and associates 6) Free Voice Lessons for BHS members and associates 7) Livestream of a championship quartet singing 8) Launch of a new web page dedicated to Vocal Health We hope that barbershop participants in BHS-WVD activities will: - Gain an understanding of their own voice, its function, and its capabilities - Receive quality vocal instruction and performance opportunities - Develop an appreciation for BHS advocacy of healthy singing - Connect with an a cappella community - Serve their local communities
