University of Virginia World Voice Day Event

Description: The Voice Team at UVA is excited to announce our 2017 World Voice Day Event on Wednesday, April 12, from 4-7 at Bavaro Hall on UVA grounds. While workshops are going on in Holloway Hall (Room 116 in Bavaro), local singers and actors will be performing outside in the courtyard where food and family activities will also be available. Booths will be set up in the Atrium with more information and resources on vocal health and services. The Main Program will run twice – first at at 4:00 and then again at 5:30. Main Program - Halloway Hall, located in Room 116 in Bavaro Hall What is the Voice? -Anatomy & physiology of the vocal mechanism -Common voice problems -Who is susceptible Laryngoscopy Demo - Watch the vocal folds in action as a singer performs while being scoped! Vocal Budgeting - are borrowing from tomorrow to meet your vocal needs today? Vocal Hygiene - are you drying out your voice box? Awareness of Voice Disorders in Others - how you can help identify voice problems in your friends, family, students... Getting Loud Safely (workshop) Speakers at the event will include: Dr. James J. Daniero, Laryngologist at UVA's Voice Clinic Nick Barone, PhD, MA, CCC-SLP Joanna Lott, MA, CCC-SLP Casey Resnick, MEd, CCC-SLP The Main Program will run twice. First at at 4:00 and then again at 5:30. Performers will include UVA's fine a capella groups The Virginia Belles, Virginia Sil'hooettes, Christian Hoos Exalt (CHoosE), as well as local singers Wendy Repass, Julia Kwolyk, Josephine Miller, Anna Perkins, and a special performance by the UVA Graduate Drama students with Monica Leavitt.
