Celebrating the voice: Irish voices in a Digital Space

Description: The Phonetics and Speech Lab, Trinity College Dublin presents: “Mheal sí lena glórthaí mé” Modeling and Analysing the Voice: ongoing voice research including the generation of synthetic voices for Irish Official Launch: Munster and Ulster Voices; Web reader for Irish; Educational Resources Our voice is our most precious instrument: it captures our unique identity, expresses our linguistic message and, through tone of voice, our feelings. It’s not just what we say, it’s the way that we say it! Ongoing research to model the voice and to capture these aspects of communication is presented, along with the synthetic voices created for the Irish dialects, and research on the spoken melody of Irish dialects. Innovative applications in education and access will also be demonstrated.
